Amazon Kindle

Amazon Kindle

This device is available in Europe since last Monday. And I ordered already one. Its a great new device. It looks and feels better than generation one. This is the future of reading books and newspapers or magazines. I am absolutely sure that our children will not be forced to bear the heavy weight shool books in ten years from now. In ten years every child will have its own e-reader with all the shool books stored on it.

The device is not only great because you don’t need to carry a bundle of books. It has also functions like: making a bookmark, marking some text, and so on. What I realy love is the dictionary, which is preinstalled. If you don’t know the sense of a word, you can scroll to the word and within seconds the meaning is displayed on to bottom of the screen. This is a nice functionality to learn for example English.

Austin Texas

Austin Texas

I had to go to a meeting in Austin, Texas. Our company has a subsidiary there. Austin is a very nice city. Totally different to New York.

I have never been in this part of the US and am very surprised. I have been in California almost 20 years ago, and I have been in New York for several times, but all regions are different.

It is flat, in the middle of the country which means that you fly with the plan for hours over land which always looks the same. We flew in from Canada and had half the day wood, fields and small towns beneath us. We landed in Atlanta, Georgia, where you could see a lot of new houses grouped into lanes as you can see it in TV series from US.

Austin has a small center with a few sky scrapers. Austin is the head quarter of Dell, and there are the government and the university of Texas there. This explains also the big difference to for example New York. In Austin, there are crowds of  people doing sports, running, biking and so on, what you can not see in Connecticut for example.

Snowman

Snowman

We had snow very early this year. We just came back from Cyprus where we had been for holidays. We had 30 degrees there and came back into winter. Was snowing and I drove back to Brunni with the girls to make a snowman. The first snowman this year.

Had a lot of fun with the kids. Is always impressive for them when we have the first snow. They like creating a snowman though I have to help them. Looks like a monster! :->

Cyprus 2009

Cyprus 2009

This year we were the first time in Cyprus. This greek island has the big advantage that is is located so far south and east that the weather is still very warm there in October.

In Switzerland the kids have three weeks holiday in October, so it is a very good time to make holidays then. In mid summer it is very warm in Greece, sometimes it has more than 40 degrees. With this heat, making holiday with kids is not so good. At early afternoon, you have to go to your hotel room and spend some hours in the cool chamber while it is the hotest time outside.

The hotel we had this year was very nice. We had very good animation also for the kids. The food was good, the appartment was nice, the beach wounderful. Everything ok. We will come back next year.

Iron-Bike-Race

Iron-Bike-Race

This year I started the third time for this bike race. Start and finish are just 500 meters from my home, so its a home race for me. A lot of neighbours attend this race too. It has three categories. I start for the smalest one. It goes over 55 kilometers and 2300 meters in altitude.

This year was my fastest race since I participat. I was 3 minutes faster than last year. This year I did a lot of training, especially the time when I went home with the bike from the office. This was enough training, so I had enough power to go as fast as possible from beginning to the end of the race.

It is much more fun if the race is not so exhausting. Additionally the weather was wounderful. Nice race this year and a lot of participants. I went to the start 15 minutes before starting time and had already to queue up very far behind the start line, but after 10 minutes I was in the middle of the crowd.

Greifenseelauf

Greifenseelauf

This is a half marathon. It has a distance of about 21.100 kilometers. I participated this year the first time. Last year I have a cold. You can not run a half marathon with a cold. I think you would die. It is too long.

Yesterday it was too warm, so everybody was slower than normal. For me and my nightbour who participated too, it was a very hard fight. After half of the way we already were dired. People started to overtake use. The longer the race was, the more people were overtaking me.

It is always frustrating if you are slower than such a lot of competitors. Finally I was happy that I were able to finish. This was really one of the hardes runs I had up to now. 21 kilometers is very long if you go as fast as you can. Running 12 kilometers is easy in comparision to this.

The last running, around Wäggitalersee was a fun compared to yesterday. But I will again participate next year. As a whole its just fun. The more races I make, the more fun I have.

Europa-Park

Europa-Park

This adventure park is located in Germany but just 2 hours drive with the car away. I have been there for the first time. Some friends invited us for a two days trip to the park including staying over night in one of the park hotels.

You can spend easily two days with the children in this park. It is very beautiful. A lot of trees and water. The fun buildings and restaurents are all located between green and small lakes.

Its like a small paradise with a lot of attractions for the children. Also for adults, but we were there with the children, and there it is important that it has enough to look and test for the kids.

The park is divided into country areas where the different europaen countries present their special attractions. There is even on area especially for small kids with very slow moving trains and boats swimming through fairy woods.

Waeggitalersee

Waeggitalersee

There is as small valley with an artificial lake near Einsiedeln. It is called Wäggital and the lake exists since 1924. Each year there is a running race around the lake.

We participated this year for the first time. Is is about 12.8 kilometers and on Friday evening. This year was the 20th race. The winner had 43 minutes. We finished in less than on hour, 59:46!

Such a short race is like a sprint. You can go go go. At the last 500 meters I were even strong ennough to make a sprint and overtake a competitor. I am in good condition this year. I already jogged several times from the office to our flat, a distance of more than 20 kilometers and elevation of about 500 meters.

This gives power. We want to redo the Luzern marathon this year, and I am already able to go more than 30 kilometers without getting to dired.
