Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs

When I came back from my holiday in Ocotober, I saw latest times magazine with a picture of Steve Jobs on the front page and the subtitle 1955 – 2011. First I could not believe it and went to wikipedia. And there I saw that Jobs really died a week ago. I was shocked. Since I have an iPhone and now also an iPad I am a big fan of Apple.

Who in the hell should invent such nice new products now? I am sure, Apple will not be able for a long time! Immediately I ordered the new biography on Amazon which I got on 24th.

The last couple of days I read the biography and I have to say: This is one of the most interesting books I have ever read. I read in the train, in the morning, in the afternoon, at the weekend, at night, when ever I had a couple of minutes for free. Very very good book. The best book I have read in years!

Kindle direct publishing

I have a kindle since a couple of years and like this beautiful device.

Some weeks ago I found out how to create an ebook for kindle! And the first thing I did was of course to create my own ebook and transfer it to my kindle.

Now I found also out that it is quite easy to pulish such an ebook at amazon.

And my next action was of course to do exactly that: publish my own book! Here it is: my first ebook you can buy at amazon!

I bought also the new kindle. The new one is smaller with the same size of the display, has less wieght and a higher display resolution. The new one is withoug GSM support, but I need to download new books only at home where I have wireless.

The best benefit of the kindle is that you can download a trial of a book where you can read the first chapter. I more than once downloaded such trials and found out that the book is not what I have expected.

It happend more than once that I bought a book which seemed to be very interesting and afterwards I did never read it to the end. Thats over now though I still by books. Not all of the books are available as kindle downloads up to now.

The good thing is, that there are now also German books available, think more than 60.000. And lot of them (mostly old literature: Goethe and so on) are for free.

Amazon Kindle

This device is available in Europe since last Monday. And I ordered already one. Its a great new device. It looks and feels better than generation one. This is the future of reading books and newspapers or magazines. I am absolutely sure that our children will not be forced to bear the heavy weight shool books in ten years from now. In ten years every child will have its own e-reader with all the shool books stored on it.

The device is not only great because you don’t need to carry a bundle of books. It has also functions like: making a bookmark, marking some text, and so on. What I realy love is the dictionary, which is preinstalled. If you don’t know the sense of a word, you can scroll to the word and within seconds the meaning is displayed on to bottom of the screen. This is a nice functionality to learn for example English.

Never wrestle with a pig

I saw this book on a visit in New York, read some pages and shortly decided to buy and read it back at home. Was a good descision because I realy enjoyed reading this book.

Have you ever seen the film “Jerry Maguire – play of the live” with Tom Cruise. The book reminds me of this film and there is a link because the author of the book is also mentioned in the film.

The author Mark H. McCormack owns a company which manages sports people and he describes his insightes into business he has gained over the years.

Code Complete is one of the best and the absolutely interessting books I have ever read about Software Development. Here you can read everything from design to development, refactoring, documentation and so on. If you want to become a good developer, it is a must to have read this book.

Steve McConnell seems to have a lot of experience in the whole field of software development. An he is a good writer. He never looses his humor. More than 800 pages of fun.
