The skating ground has already opened. So we went to it to make our first rounds this year. Lot of childs were there and our eldest is just going to learn it.
Two years ago it was so cold in Dezember that the lake was frozen. There was 40 cm heavy ice on the lake. For a few weeks they made a big skating ground on the lake. It was very funny to skate there.
It is said that if there are minus 300 degree over a certain period that lake Zürich gets frozen. There must be for example 20 days with minus 15 or 30 days with minus 10 degree. This only happens 2 times in hundred years. But two years ago it nearly happend.
This year winter came very very early. We got half a meter snow 2 days ago. It will be away within a few days, I am sure.
But today they made the nordic skiing trace which is just 50 meters near our flat. So I made my first kilometers on snow this year.
Here is a foto from the Sihlsee (Sihl lake) which is not more than a kilometer away. The skiing trace runs beside the lake up the hill on the other side. There are 4 distances: 3, 12, 16 and 22 kilometers. Nordic skiing is my favorite sport in winter.
This years race was much more fun for me than last years. I was not so good prepared than last year, but did not want to make the same mistake once more. This all together made the race a real fun.
I had 30 minutes longer than last year which for me is not worth mentioning. Last year I started to fast. I wanted to go with the masses which was a bad mistake. After a few kilometers my power was all gone. After little more than half of the race I were almost not able to keep on the bike and the rest of the race was a horrible painful torture.
This year I had no time for training because I was always jogging. At least I were able to make up to 100 kilometers of training. Normally much to less to qualify for starting but I did a lot of running and made some small test tours with the bike. At a whole I felt prepared but wanted to go my own speed and make enougth breaks.
Thats what I did and it became a wonderful race with very nice, cold but sunny weather. I made lot of breaks either for eating or for changing clothes and had enougth reserves to give full power until the end. Nice race! I will try the same next year! And my conclusions: you must not give 100% at the race day. If you are well prepared you will be fast, you must not power out yourself and make a bloody race!
This years race was on the old route, about 15 kilometers. This year, we were better than last year. I were able to go 20 seconds per minute faster than last year. Last year I had big problems where the route goes up for a few hundret meters, but this year there were no such problems.
The race was a fun allover. In my opinion you just must not go to fast. You must be able to have a smile on your face when you go throught the finish line. Its just a race. Running keeps you healthy and such races give you a simple but effective target for your training sessions.
This year my older little taughter of about 4 and a half year also startet in the category VAKI (father and child). The childs have to go for one kilometer together with an adult. She gave me her hand all the way and I had to pull her most part of the way. But she had a lot of fun and afterwards wanted to accompany me on the long distance.
This was the most exciting sportive fight I had this year. And this was also the finish of the “best of three” competition.
“Best of three” was hold the first time this year and consists of three races: jogging, biking and skating. I made all three races and lets say it in this words: I was not the last one. There were always others behind me. But participating and finishing is the target of the game. And I am a finisher in all three (only 9 persons attended all races).
From now on, from this very year on, my personal target is to finish all three races every year. I hope my physical strengh will allow this as long as possible!
I had more kilometers done this year than ever before and I expected just a short trip of about three hours. But there were over 600 participants in my group and the race went straight on from the beginning.
I gave what I had but could not avoid to be overtaken until the last meters. This race was much more exhausting than I had expected. But when you have finished you are proud of your performance independent of the rank you have.
For the next season I want to do more kilometers and try to start for the next higher class. Mountain biking is one of my favourite sports. Its a wounderful feeling to rave down a hill, sometimes a little dangerous and rushing adrenalin
This summer my neighbors and I we joined the Sihlseelauf, a run of 14.5 kilometers along the Shilsee lake. The distance was longer and there were more ups and downs than in other years because the bridge above the lake is being repaired.
We started the race almost in the first line with the consequence that a lot of other participants overtook me during the race. But the race was even so a great fun for me.
I had an average of 5 minutes per kilometer and are very proud of my performance.
