This year winter came very very early. We got half a meter snow 2 days ago. It will be away within a few days, I am sure.
But today they made the nordic skiing trace which is just 50 meters near our flat. So I made my first kilometers on snow this year.
Here is a foto from the Sihlsee (Sihl lake) which is not more than a kilometer away. The skiing trace runs beside the lake up the hill on the other side. There are 4 distances: 3, 12, 16 and 22 kilometers. Nordic skiing is my favorite sport in winter.
This was my first marathon. We had the idea this spring, when we finished another race in Bern. We decided to train the whole summer and increase distance 10 kilometers per month.
It was not as hard as expected. The problem for us was, that the wider you go the longer you go and beginning with 30 kilometers, you need quite long for the trainging (in our case about 3 hours). And then there comes a time, when you dont want to run any longer.
But yesterday we did the marathon in Luzern. It was a beautiful race, lot of people and music, nice wether, not to cold and not to hot. I were able to go quite fast until kilometer 28. But there I ran into the “wall” as it is called.
My paces became smaller and smaller. I had to stop from time to time to make some streching. But at least I were able to finish my first marathon.
Though there were thousends of participants faster than I, am proud about my performance and I will try to make marathon also the next year. But I should train a litte more …
This years race was much more fun for me than last years. I was not so good prepared than last year, but did not want to make the same mistake once more. This all together made the race a real fun.
I had 30 minutes longer than last year which for me is not worth mentioning. Last year I started to fast. I wanted to go with the masses which was a bad mistake. After a few kilometers my power was all gone. After little more than half of the race I were almost not able to keep on the bike and the rest of the race was a horrible painful torture.
This year I had no time for training because I was always jogging. At least I were able to make up to 100 kilometers of training. Normally much to less to qualify for starting but I did a lot of running and made some small test tours with the bike. At a whole I felt prepared but wanted to go my own speed and make enougth breaks.
Thats what I did and it became a wonderful race with very nice, cold but sunny weather. I made lot of breaks either for eating or for changing clothes and had enougth reserves to give full power until the end. Nice race! I will try the same next year! And my conclusions: you must not give 100% at the race day. If you are well prepared you will be fast, you must not power out yourself and make a bloody race!
This years race was on the old route, about 15 kilometers. This year, we were better than last year. I were able to go 20 seconds per minute faster than last year. Last year I had big problems where the route goes up for a few hundret meters, but this year there were no such problems.
The race was a fun allover. In my opinion you just must not go to fast. You must be able to have a smile on your face when you go throught the finish line. Its just a race. Running keeps you healthy and such races give you a simple but effective target for your training sessions.
This year my older little taughter of about 4 and a half year also startet in the category VAKI (father and child). The childs have to go for one kilometer together with an adult. She gave me her hand all the way and I had to pull her most part of the way. But she had a lot of fun and afterwards wanted to accompany me on the long distance.
This is a very nice run. It goes around the beautiful lake aegeri and is 14.5 kilometers long. I started yesterday and had a very hard race but a quite good time for me. This year I have trained a lot and were half a minute per kilometer faster than last year at a similar race. Have a look at the run here.
I made a mistake here at this run. I tried to follow my neighbor, who is slightly faster than me. It was very hard for me and I gave it up at kilometer 10. But at this time I already was very dired and had to fight into the finish. It will not do this at the next race. It is better to go at ones own pace. And the most important thing for me at a race like this is: be able to run into the finish with a smiling in the face. It is for fun, and if you have to fight to much, than the fun factor is not so high.
This was my first attendance to the GP of Bern. It was a warm Saturday afternoon and we got there with train. This run is marvelous! Lot of the passage goes throught the city with a lot of people cheering for you and there are a lot of bands making music around the line.
I had a quit good personal running time with an average of 5 minutes per kilometer. Of course, the winner needs only half the time. But for me it was good. This will be part of my sportive year from now on. I will be there next May.
I were able to track my running conditions with my new gps device. Luckily there is a new software for the Garmin Forerunner which allows to see different categories of the track in a map or a satellite plan. Nice software!
This was the most exciting sportive fight I had this year. And this was also the finish of the “best of three” competition.
“Best of three” was hold the first time this year and consists of three races: jogging, biking and skating. I made all three races and lets say it in this words: I was not the last one. There were always others behind me. But participating and finishing is the target of the game. And I am a finisher in all three (only 9 persons attended all races).
From now on, from this very year on, my personal target is to finish all three races every year. I hope my physical strengh will allow this as long as possible!
I like fitness, I like sports. I like to run and run and run. I like to bike and bike and bike. Now, as Christmas is not so far away, I bought a toy for men. It is always better to buy the christmas present yourself than hoping someone else will do it for your! :->
I found my present in this small navigation and training utility from Garmin. You can use if for all kind of sports (jogging, biking, walking, nordic skiing …). It knows where you are, how fast you are going, the altitude, your puls, whatever is necessary for fitness.
You can transfer the data to your pc and study charts of your trainings. It istop!
