Today I ran my second marathon, the marathon of Luzern. We did our first marathon last year, also in Luzern. This time, we know the trace. I was better prepared than last year, I thought, but I needed 4 minutes more than last year.
This year the wall, how it is call, came at kilometer 35, much later than last year. Therefore it hit me harder. I was from time to time not longer able to run and had to walk for a while.
Finally I did it and everything is hurting me now, my legs, my back and even my shoulders. Though it is every year a fight against the pain, I will run another marathon next year.
I think man must be able to run a marathon. That should be the normal condition of a human. At least for me it is a fix part of my live. We train the whole summer to be able to make the marathon.
This year I started the third time for this bike race. Start and finish are just 500 meters from my home, so its a home race for me. A lot of neighbours attend this race too. It has three categories. I start for the smalest one. It goes over 55 kilometers and 2300 meters in altitude.
This year was my fastest race since I participat. I was 3 minutes faster than last year. This year I did a lot of training, especially the time when I went home with the bike from the office. This was enough training, so I had enough power to go as fast as possible from beginning to the end of the race.
It is much more fun if the race is not so exhausting. Additionally the weather was wounderful. Nice race this year and a lot of participants. I went to the start 15 minutes before starting time and had already to queue up very far behind the start line, but after 10 minutes I was in the middle of the crowd.
This is a half marathon. It has a distance of about 21.100 kilometers. I participated this year the first time. Last year I have a cold. You can not run a half marathon with a cold. I think you would die. It is too long.
Yesterday it was too warm, so everybody was slower than normal. For me and my nightbour who participated too, it was a very hard fight. After half of the way we already were dired. People started to overtake use. The longer the race was, the more people were overtaking me.
It is always frustrating if you are slower than such a lot of competitors. Finally I was happy that I were able to finish. This was really one of the hardes runs I had up to now. 21 kilometers is very long if you go as fast as you can. Running 12 kilometers is easy in comparision to this.
The last running, around Wäggitalersee was a fun compared to yesterday. But I will again participate next year. As a whole its just fun. The more races I make, the more fun I have.
There is as small valley with an artificial lake near Einsiedeln. It is called Wäggital and the lake exists since 1924. Each year there is a running race around the lake.
We participated this year for the first time. Is is about 12.8 kilometers and on Friday evening. This year was the 20th race. The winner had 43 minutes. We finished in less than on hour, 59:46!
Such a short race is like a sprint. You can go go go. At the last 500 meters I were even strong ennough to make a sprint and overtake a competitor. I am in good condition this year. I already jogged several times from the office to our flat, a distance of more than 20 kilometers and elevation of about 500 meters.
This gives power. We want to redo the Luzern marathon this year, and I am already able to go more than 30 kilometers without getting to dired.
Grand Prix de Bern
This year the Grand Prix was a month earlier which means that we have had less time to get in shape.
The race was the same fun as last year. We started in a better sector. Therefore I was not in a situation to overtake a lot of people but it happend to me that I fell back and back. All the time people were overtaking me.
But this does not matter. The important thing is that the race is a fun and this race is always a very special fun because there are so many participants (over 13.000 people did the 10 miles). From the beginning to the end you are in the middle of a crowd.
This year we bought a ticket for the whole year for the skiing area just behind Einsiedeln. Our older taughter skis since last winter and has so much fun with it that we go for sking almost every weekend.
The younger taughter has to attend us. We put her onto a sledge where she sleeps very often. Then we make about 10 time the hill with the older taughter, the younger pulling around, go to the restaurent for french frees and a wheet beer. After one or two hours we go down to the village the small kid on the sledge and me or my wife behind her.
Its such a fun and the area is so beautiful. There are not to many people. The slope is not to steep, ideal for children. And this year there is such a lot of snow. It will be possible to ski for another month I think. And the panorama is amazing.
The name of the moutain on the picture is “Mythen”. Its just 15 minutes with the car from our flat. I can see it from our garden.
Last year I did not participate the race because there was not enough snow and the alternative competition was with inline skates. But this year there was just enough snow, not too much, but the race could take place. A larger part of the slope was icy what made the race quite fast.
I came to late, lost a lot of time with preparation near my car. So when I reached the starting point I just had another 3 minutes until the starting shot. I immediatley turned on my skates and joint the other participants. I did not matter that in this way I had to start in the last line.
The race was a fun. Not too much participants, between 200 and 300 I think. Each race makes you faster because you do you best and go to the limit. I tried not to go to my limit but could not take back myself. Such is race. You dont want to be overtaken by anybody.
This year winter came very very early. We got half a meter snow 2 days ago. It will be away within a few days, I am sure.
But today they made the nordic skiing trace which is just 50 meters near our flat. So I made my first kilometers on snow this year.
Here is a foto from the Sihlsee (Sihl lake) which is not more than a kilometer away. The skiing trace runs beside the lake up the hill on the other side. There are 4 distances: 3, 12, 16 and 22 kilometers. Nordic skiing is my favorite sport in winter.
