This was the first run around Lauerzersee and there were already more than 600 participants. It was extremely hot, more than 30 degree, when it started last Friday at 7 pm.
Was not so easy to get there, you have to park your car at Seewen-Märkt which is a shopping mall not so far away. You only have to cross a trail way and a highway! And I was really in a hurry because I had to get a start number just before the beginning and was already very late.
The race starts just in front of the local swimming bath at the lake and is exactly 10 kilometers in distance. I started too fast and was still tired because I did also 1000 meter crawl a noon, the same day. So my arms were hurting but thought this is a good training for a triathlon.
After 5 kilometer, I was already quite exhausted and had problems with breathing and each kilometer became harder. At the end I really was happy to finish. My time was a few second above 50 minutes, so still 5 minutes per kilometer.
The route itself is not very beautiful, big part of it is just in parallel to the highway with thousands of cars with bad air and noise. I originally wanted to participate at Klöntalerseelauf which took place at the same day but decided to do Lauerzerseelauf because it is nearer to my home and it was the first time. Maybe next year I will decide for Klöntal if they are again on the same day.
This is a bike tournament where you start in different groups of about 20 to 20 people depending on your personal speed. I started in “sports” group but was not really sure if I am able to follow. So I expected a quite hard fight and was prepared to have to give up and finish in the next slower group or find my way to the finish alone.
The frist 50 kilometers go constantly up to the mountains. Its not really hard, you just have to follow the group to be in the wind shadow. I was able to follow and the rest after 50 kilometers was quite acceptable. From then it goes quite steep up to the mountains, 12 kilometers almost only in the lowest gear. This part was free speed, so everybody could go his own tempo.
On top there was a snake station and a rest of about 20 minutes. And then it went straight down. On top we had approximately half of the whole route (130 kilometers). And the following 2 hours were mostly going down. As long as you were able to stay in the group everything was ok. But when we had to pass a short up a hill, I really had to fight, to be able to follow. Legs were hurting badly then and it was not going better until finally we finished.
It was a wonderful day! I will come back next year to the Säntis-Classic.
This year it was the first time that I participated at this event. Rapperswil-Jona is just 15 kilometers away from my home. I pass it every day on may way to the office. It is a very nice city at lake Zürich with a port for small ships and a lot of nice restaurants just near the lake. In summer you feel like being somewhere in Italy when you sit in one of the Restaurants at the lake.
At the triathlon we were there employees from our company and I took over the biking part. It was great. I had to do 90 kilometers, 2 turns and were not bad. I were able to overtake approximately 50 bikers and I was not overtaken by one. That was real fun.
I always dreamed of once doing triathlon but had not the time to train swimming. Therefore it was pretty luck that we did it as a team. The distances were 1.9 kilometers of swimming. Ugly! When you were looking from the start to out over the lake to the point where they had to swim to, it was unbelievable so far away seemed it.
This year I was already on top of Mythen for the first time. I did the walk with my new sticks. The last time I have used sticks is years ago. Must have been in Austria, when I was young. I bought them for walking with my new snow shoes and can use them also in summer.
There were already a lot of people on top of Mythen, as always on Sundays. I walked with my sticks and arrived on top after 59 minutes. Thats good for the first time in the year.
Down I needed about 40 minutes but was much to fast. I should not walk so fast on this mountain. It is too dangerous for running. And every year 1 or 2 people have an accident and die on this mountain. Unbelievable but some of the people try to climb the mountain with summer shoes. Thats foolish.
In winter I am ofter there for skiing. It is a very nice area.
Since last year I use this software on my iPhone and the assosiated homepage to track all my sport activities. As you can see, the last couple of months I did approximately 150 kilometers of sport.
Does not matter, what. In the winter months I did a lot of cross country skiing and now, in summer, I restarted with biking, mountain biking and running.
The software is very nice. You can also enter activities, you did not track with the iPhone and it shows you statistics like the one you can see here.
This year it was much better than last year. There were two things: first we booked breakfast in the hotel just in front of the start and had morning buffet in a the warmth.
This was the problem the last years. It is impossible to find a warm place in a restaurant. All restaurants are over and over crowded with people who had cold.
Which contrast this year: warm breakfast room with buffet, as much coffee and bread and butter as you can eat and that just in front of the starting area.
The second thing much better this year was the slope. The snow was cold and the ski was running. I was able to do the marathon in 3 hours 30 something I think (forgot the exact time) and was not a bit as much exhausted as last year.
This year was just great! We will be back in 2013.
Once again you can find me on top of Speiereck. This year I was alone. Last year my brother was with me.
From the end station of the ski escalator it is only about 10 minutes to the top of the mountain. I took my skis to the top to ski down on that back side through deep snow.
On top I made a 360 ° movie from all the mountains you can see from there. The view was great. Double click on the image on the right side to start it.
I have been on top of many of the peaks you can see on this movie. Of course in summer and not in winter. But in winter it is more impressive. Some of the mountains are almost or even more than 3000 meters.
By the way, I have a new MacBook Air with iMovie software to create small movies. the 360 ° movie was done with my iPhone. Click here to see the movie.
Where is the most beautiful hiking route near Einsiedeln? Its Furggelen!
It is a cottage on the mountain just behind Einsiedeln. You can walk up from different locations. You can start in Brunni, in Unteriberg, Oberiberg or even in Einsiedeln. I prefer the route from Brunni up to Holzegg to Furggelen and from there down to Brunni.
You can do the route in summer and in winter, with skis or with snow shoes. The great thing is the panorama. You see on all sides moutaines: low mountains, high moutains and even some glaciers.
Beginning from October to April SAC is in charge of the cottage. You can even stay there overnight if you want. Its just great!
