This is a very nice run. It goes around the beautiful lake aegeri and is 14.5 kilometers long. I started yesterday and had a very hard race but a quite good time for me. This year I have trained a lot and were half a minute per kilometer faster than last year at a similar race. Have a look at the run here.
I made a mistake here at this run. I tried to follow my neighbor, who is slightly faster than me. It was very hard for me and I gave it up at kilometer 10. But at this time I already was very dired and had to fight into the finish. It will not do this at the next race. It is better to go at ones own pace. And the most important thing for me at a race like this is: be able to run into the finish with a smiling in the face. It is for fun, and if you have to fight to much, than the fun factor is not so high.
J. F. Kennedy
“Ich bin ein Berliner!” This famous words are from JF Kennedy. Every body knows them. He has spoken them when he visited the western part of Berlin which was a that time segregated from the eastern, communistic part of Germany. It seems that the people who were listening began to cry after Kennedys words and you may think, this is because Kennedy told them that he actually feeled like one of them.
But that were not all the words form Kennedy and it is a typical example how the meaning of some words can be changed completely if only part of them are delivered.
What he realy sayed was this: “2000 years ago, if you were born in the anciant Rom you had all the roman rights and the sentence “I am a Roman!” meant that you are a free man. Nowadays, if you want to tell that you are a free man you have to say “I am a Berliner!””
So what Kennedy has said is completely different from what you would think if you hear only the last words. But both meanings are fantastic and able to make people cry. So, it does not matter.
Did you know that Martin Luther did not went to monestary and became a priest because he was almost thunderstruck. Our teacher used this funny explanation in school and I was deeply impressed by it when I was a boy.
Much more later I read a book about important historical persons. This book contained an excerpt about the “Luthers Tischreden”, a script of speeches he made during daily dinners. One of the students living in Luthers house wrote down the speeches. And there you can read the explanation of Luther himself!
Why he went to menestary in Luthers words: “My parents were so grim in education that I fleed in the arms of the priests. One day I was beaten almost to blood becaus of some stolen cherries!”
It was all a matter of education, something psychological. It had nothing to do with luck or god.
This was my first attendance to the GP of Bern. It was a warm Saturday afternoon and we got there with train. This run is marvelous! Lot of the passage goes throught the city with a lot of people cheering for you and there are a lot of bands making music around the line.
I had a quit good personal running time with an average of 5 minutes per kilometer. Of course, the winner needs only half the time. But for me it was good. This will be part of my sportive year from now on. I will be there next May.
I were able to track my running conditions with my new gps device. Luckily there is a new software for the Garmin Forerunner which allows to see different categories of the track in a map or a satellite plan. Nice software!
Code Complete is one of the best and the absolutely interessting books I have ever read about Software Development. Here you can read everything from design to development, refactoring, documentation and so on. If you want to become a good developer, it is a must to have read this book.
Steve McConnell seems to have a lot of experience in the whole field of software development. An he is a good writer. He never looses his humor. More than 800 pages of fun.
This was the most exciting sportive fight I had this year. And this was also the finish of the “best of three” competition.
“Best of three” was hold the first time this year and consists of three races: jogging, biking and skating. I made all three races and lets say it in this words: I was not the last one. There were always others behind me. But participating and finishing is the target of the game. And I am a finisher in all three (only 9 persons attended all races).
From now on, from this very year on, my personal target is to finish all three races every year. I hope my physical strengh will allow this as long as possible!
The stars are away. When I was a boy, I can remember that you could saw the stars of the milk street. It was very fascinating. Sometimes, especially in winter we made a walk in the night with the parents and I wonderd about the millions of stars you could see.
Have you ever seen the milk street? Can you remember? No, I am sure it is not possible in europe these days. The light pollution is too hight. There is to much light in the night in the industrial areas of the world.
So our children will not see the milk street with their own eyes. They only can hear about it from their parents or be impressed of photos shot on satellits. The image on the left shows the light pollution of europe.
I like fitness, I like sports. I like to run and run and run. I like to bike and bike and bike. Now, as Christmas is not so far away, I bought a toy for men. It is always better to buy the christmas present yourself than hoping someone else will do it for your! :->
I found my present in this small navigation and training utility from Garmin. You can use if for all kind of sports (jogging, biking, walking, nordic skiing …). It knows where you are, how fast you are going, the altitude, your puls, whatever is necessary for fitness.
You can transfer the data to your pc and study charts of your trainings. It istop!
